COLUMBUS, Ohio (June 17th, 2015) - It's back! 225 bar and restaurant locations, along with local food trucks, will donate a portion of their sales on June 23rd and June 24th to Mid-Ohio Foodbank's Operation Feed campaign for FOODFIGHT 2015.
The Central Ohio Restaurant Association (CORA) and The Food Fort, powered by ECDI, will partner with Mid-Ohio Foodbank to organize its seventh annual FOODFIGHT "Go Out To Fight Hunger," an initiative to involve local restaurants, bars, food trucks, and their patrons in the fight against hunger in our community.
Participating locations (see complete list at www.FoodFightHunger.org) will donate 5 percent of their sales over the two-day event to Operation Feed. All proceeds raised will provide food and groceries for hungry children, seniors, and families in central and eastern Ohio. To contribute, patrons just need to dine at any of the participating locations. The Columbus Commons will host the food truck event on Tuesday, June 23rd, from 11 am - 2 pm. Participating trucks include Pitabilities, Blu Olive, Ajumama, Kinetic, Red Plate Blue Plate, and En Place Foods. On June 24th, various restaurants across central Ohio will support Operation Feed.
"Central Ohio restaurants rely on the community for support and we give back in every way possible. One very important way is to help feed our hungry neighbors. After all, we are in the business of serving food, whether to our patrons or to those struggling to make ends meet," said Scott Heimlich, Restaurateur and President, Central Ohio Restaurant Association (CORA). "It is our honor to be part of such an important social cause and to partner with a great organization, Mid-Ohio Foodbank. We know that every dollar we contribute will have an impact on the community around us. Please join us in support of Central Ohio restaurants and Operation Feed." "We're thrilled for the second year to have member trucks supporting the FOOD(truck)FIGHT initiative," said Douglas Craven, Director of Corporate Marketing and Advancement, ECDI.
"The Food Fort enables food-based entrepreneurs to develop their culinary talents, market their businesses effectively and network with like-minded colleagues. Philanthropic involvement is yet another opportunity to enhance a growing business." As the need for assistance in the community has increased, Mid-Ohio Foodbank's distribution has climbed by more th an 50 percent over the past five years. FOODFIGHT raised more than 138,000 meals in 2014 and has raised nearly 630,000 meals for hungry families since its inception.
"The success of Operation Feed is tied directly to the involvement of great community partners like CORA and those participating in FOODFIGHT," said Matt Habash, Mid-Ohio Foodbank President & CEO. "This is a wonderful opportunity to organize a group of friends, family or co-workers for a breakfast, lunch, coffee break, happy hour or dinner to help us reach our vision of a hunger-free and healthier community."
Each dollar raised for Operation Feed provides four meals for hungry people in the community. For more information about FOODFIGHT, to see a list of participating bars, restaurants and food trucks, and to make your FOODFIGHT plans, visit www.FoodFightHunger.org.
